Where the Boxer comes from

Boxers descend from German hunting dogs bred to hold big game, and were later used as guards and messenger dogs. The name may come from the way they use their front paws when playing.

Personality and daily life

Playful, energetic and loyal. Boxers stay puppy-like for years, love children, and are protective of their family.

Boxers stay puppy-like for years and adore their families. They need lots of play and do not cope well with heat.

Exercise, grooming and health

Plan on an hour or more of exercise. The short coat needs little grooming. Their flat faces mean heat sensitivity. Heart conditions and cancer are common, so choose a breeder who tests.
