Where the Alaskan Malamute comes from
Malamutes were bred by the Mahlemut people of Alaska for hauling heavy loads over snow. They are strong and built for endurance rather than speed.
Personality and daily life
Affectionate, strong and playful. Malamutes are friendly with people but can be dominant with other dogs and love to dig.
Malamutes are powerful sled dogs that love to pull and dig. They suit experienced owners with space.
Exercise, grooming and health
Long daily exercise such as hiking or pulling. The thick coat sheds heavily and needs regular brushing. They tolerate heat poorly. Hip dysplasia is a concern.
