Where the Pembroke Welsh Corgi comes from
Corgis herded cattle in Wales for centuries, nipping at the heels of cows and ducking the kicks thanks to their low build. Queen Elizabeth II kept Pembrokes for most of her life, which made the breed famous.
Personality and daily life
Alert, playful and clever. They are affectionate with family, can bark a lot, and may nip heels when excited.
Corgis are bigger in character than in size. They are happy in a home with a daily walk and some training games.
Exercise, grooming and health
An hour of exercise suits most, but keep them lean to protect their long backs. The double coat sheds heavily year-round. Back problems, hip dysplasia and obesity are common.
