Where the Pomeranian comes from

Pomeranians are the small descendants of large Arctic spitz dogs. Queen Victoria's love for the breed in the 1800s helped shrink them and make them popular.

Personality and daily life

Lively, bold and curious, with a big voice. Poms are affectionate and quick learners but can be domineering with other dogs.

Pomeranians are fluffy and confident and can be barky. Their thick double coat needs regular brushing.

Exercise, grooming and health

Short walks and play. The thick double coat needs brushing several times a week and sheds heavily, especially in season. Dental and knee problems are common.
