Where the Newfoundland comes from

Newfoundlands were working dogs on the island of Newfoundland, hauling nets and lines for fishermen and rescuing people from the sea. They have webbed feet and a water-resistant coat.

Personality and daily life

Sweet, patient and devoted. Newfies are famously gentle with children and love water.

Newfies are gentle giants who love water. Expect drool, shedding and a lot of dog.

Exercise, grooming and health

Moderate exercise and swimming if possible. They shed heavily, drool, and need brushing several times a week. Heart disease, hip dysplasia and bloat are concerns. They overheat easily.
