Where the Cocker Spaniel comes from

Cocker Spaniels were used in England to flush woodcock from cover, which gave them their name. The American and English types later separated.

Personality and daily life

Cheerful, gentle and eager to please. They are sensitive and wag their whole body, but can suffer from separation anxiety.

Cocker Spaniels are happy, wag-all-over dogs. Their long ears and coat need regular cleaning and brushing.

Exercise, grooming and health

An hour of exercise suits most. The long coat and ears need regular brushing and cleaning. Ear infections, eye problems and hip dysplasia occur.
