Where the Cane Corso comes from
The Cane Corso descends from Roman war dogs and was used on Italian farms to guard property, drive cattle and hunt large game such as boar. The breed was close to extinction in the 1900s and was rebuilt by Italian enthusiasts.
Personality and daily life
Calm and devoted at home, wary of strangers. They are intelligent and eager to work with a handler they respect, but can be dominant with other dogs.
Cane Corsos are big, strong dogs that take their guarding role seriously. They need early socialisation and a calm, consistent owner.
Exercise, grooming and health
About an hour of exercise and regular training. The short coat is easy to groom. Hip dysplasia, bloat and eye problems occur, and the lifespan is on the short side.
Is a Cane Corso right for you?

- Needs space, so not ideal for small apartments
